Abstract
Bentazon was developed as herbicide in 1968. Toxic effect-of bentazon was reported predominantly in respiratory system, suppression of CNS and immunologic system in animal model. We report 39 vear-old male patient with liver cirrhosis who
eventually
developed azotemia after ingestion of Bentazon for suicide. A day after ingestion of 800 mg/Kg of bentazon, azotemia was developed and then aggravated following 2days. 7days after ingestion, his plasma creatmine level returns to normal(1.2
mg/dL).
During the course of renal failure his output was about 1000cc per day and fractional excretion of Na(FENa) below 1%.
We conclude that a large amount of bentazon may cause acute renal failure, and present intrarenal vasoconstriction as possible mechanism of renal failure because there was no active sediment or protein in patient's urine during the course of
azotemia.
